All over for another year!

Well…that’s it for this year!
and as the Sunday Star Times said ” Mighty Murph does it again”

v8-podium-pic.jpgFranklin’s Pukekohe Park Raceway has, once again, been the home of the V8 Supercars racing over the ANZAC weekend, and what a weekend it was!

After a cooler ANZAC day start, the sun came out for Saturday and Sunday to give the crowd some fantastic viewing moments – such as Jason Bright heading into the wall at turn four, (not so good for Jason, but all adding to the excitement!) as well as some great passing moves on the track, by the likes of Shane van Gisbergen, and in the V8 Supertourers race, Aucklander, Simon Evans passing moves as well as Ant Pedersens attempt at passing Greg Murphy, only to end up hitting another car – Simon Evans!

With more than 125,000 people coming in to Pukekohe to spend the weekend at the V8 racing, the region can be proud of the way things went.
Obviously many people and businesses had a huge hand in the proceedings, with Franklin’s sub area commander of Police, Rob Honan, commenting (see the May 1 Franklin County News Paper)”

I would like to thank the people of Franklin for being great hosts……….it went without a hitch”

So fantastically well done Franklin and the visitors who came to our patch :)!!

(almost) The final countdown!!

Yes – it is ALMOST the final countdown to the V8 event here in Franklin!

V8 picThe wheels are turning at a more intense pace now that it is only two weeks out from the V8 Supercars here at the Pukekohe Park Raceway.

Transport to and from an event, is often one of the points of major concern. With Pukekohe experiencing a huge influx of visitors around this time, the roads could be chocka!!
Auckland Transport have been working to try to make sure things run smoothly without too much disruption to the locals and visitors alike, and to make the V8 weekend a memorable event for all of the RIGHT reasons!! So check out the timetables before you hit town.

There will not be any special buses running other than the usual scheduled ones, and the train will be an express running from Britomart in the Auckland CBD, although for anyone wanting to come to Pukekohe, and not already staying here for the weekend, there will be FREE buses running on ANZAC Day to come to the services, where some of the V8 crew/drivers will be before the practice sessions which will start at 11:30 on the 25th. (gates will open on ANZAC day at 11:00 a.m)

Auckland Train
Could be an awesome evening too, on the evening of the 23rd, with Drivers in the Hot Seat at an RSA event, RSA rooms, Pukekohe. All of the proceeds from this will go to help the local RSA. Tickets are available at ticketek
With Scott McLaughlin’s statement after his win on the final corner at the Clipsal 500 Adelaide twilight race, (” I slowed down too much I should’ve blocked (Whincup) a bit better. He got me, we went side by side racing, I plucked it into first, gave it a bit of jandal……..”), this has given an unexpected chance to promote our good ol’ kiwi “jandal” (or thong as the Aussies know it!) so 1000 jandals will be given away!! jandals

– oh, and there will also be a Disney Fun Zone with LIGHTNING McQUEEN!!!! wooohooo…..appearing in New Zealand for the first time, so the kids will be able to have a fantastic experience too
Lightning McQueen

……and DON’T forget….you can stay in the area and get some great dining/shopping/locals experiences as well as having an awesome time at the V8’s themselves, so come on over to our patch and experience what we have

Franklin’s busy few weeks plus….

So – it’s been a pretty crazy few weeks or so with various things happening in the Franklin region (as previously blogged!)
targa-race-puke-2014
We’ve had the ever popular car enthusiasts Swap Meet, the Targa race, and a wee while ago, a get to gether at the Mercer Airport – yes that’s right, Mercer Airport.

Thanks to some of the local property owners/developers, Neil and Dee, Mercer now has what used to be the “Auto Dome Motorcourt” building as it’s airport headquarters. A few weeks back they hosted

Members of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA) who landed 38 light aircraft at Mercer Airport recently and spent the night at the airport, dining at the Tuakau Hotel. The airmen and their spouses had spent the week flying around the North Island

Over this weekend just gone, (1st and 2nd March) the swap meet and the Targa race were on the agenda – and what a great weekend for them both too!

Some fantastic classic cars were on show at the Meet!

Getting to know us in Franklin

The Franklin district is strongly defined by urban and rural areas, outstanding natural landscapes and open green spaces.

Hamiltons Gap 2
Franklin is also regarded as both a desirable and accessible ‘lifestyle’ destination for those seeking an alternative to city living. Traditionally the Franklin area has supplied the Auckland region with fresh produce and today market gardens still remain a feature of the district’s landscapes providing an appealing backdrop to the building developments that are taking place within the area.
local food
As one of New Zealand’s fastest growing regions, Franklin offers not only excellent residential options and recreational opportunities, but also access to the goods and services available in much larger centres.

Families relocating to Franklin are attracted by the benefits that country living provides such as more space and larger sections while at the same time recognizing that Auckland and its attractions is just 45 minutes away by motorway.

The district is also home to a wide number of events both motor sport and art, horse racing and vintage to the traditional A & P show, equestrian events, Antiques and Collectable Shows and, on a weekly basis, the Franklin Country Markets at Pukekohe and Pokeno. With so much to offer, it is easy to see why Franklin Country is fast becoming the lifestyle destination of choice.

Franklin region is in for a busy weekend!

Goodness – this time of the year continues to be pretty darn busy here in Franklin Country!FC logo pic

If you are keen on antiques and collectables, then we have the place for you! Pukekohe Town hall will be the location to check out all of those items of interest and memories, with the Antiques and Collectables Show. antiques pic
The show is on both Saturday and Sunday and there will be plenty of other things to visit too. The market is always on at the Massey Ave carpark on a Saturday, and another at the Pokeno Village on Sunday, with great fresh produce and much much more, so well worth a visit too.

On Sunday, if you are feeling energetic, there is the 1/2 marathon or 6 k fun run, whichever you feel you can cope with! You will need to register and get there nice and early and afterwards, just over the road, is the Pukekohe Raceway’s “Bridles, Brollies and Beauties” event. By the looks of the weather forecast, it should be a chance to get some sun and have some fun.

…..and if that’s not enough action to cover, there is always the ENZED V8 Jetsprints at Meremere also on Sunday!

If you are worried about somewhere to stay then we have a range of accommodation options here in Franklin. There is the wonderful Tuakau Hotel (they also have accommodation at the Mercer airfield). Touchwood Motel in Pukekohe is handy to all events, as is Aveda Motor Lodge and BK’s Motorlodge and we have a number of B&B’s too, if that’s more your style! as well as camp grounds such as Clarks Beach Holiday Park.
The beaches are fairly handy too – the black sand west coast Karitahi or Port Waikato, or the calmer east coast beaches like Maraetai. Clarks Beach is a great place for swimming, boating and more, along with Glenbrook Beach, Waiau Pa, Kaiaua…the list is endless.
PLUS…if you are into golfing, then there are at least 5 or more courses all handy, with the Pukekohe course on the main road into town. The guys there would love to help get you set up for a round!
So check out our info on our website and come out our way for an awesome weekend with absolutely heaps to do and great weather to do it in!Clarks Beach

Franklin in the news…..

Well, the good news is – Franklin seems to be hitting the news again for all GREAT REASONS!

Pure day spaFor those interested in Lifestyle publications, or just interested in magazines with intersting stories and glossy pics, check out the latest Eye Magazine.

Pukekohe and the Franklin region are showcased with some GREAT write-ups, just a portion of which is here –

“ Franklin may now be part of a super city but it supersedes the rest of us city folk by being just far enough away to be calm and collected but still a thriving, exciting and entertaining community without the hustle and bustle of the big smoke. Pukekohe, Waiuku, Tuakau, Clarks Beach, Drury, Karaka, Pokeno, Miranda and Hampton Downs are the hidden gems of the south, all with the small town charm on a big scale.
Franklin is the home to motorsport, racing. Boutique shopping, five star cuisine and a farmers market full of locally grown and farmed produce. From the vintage boutiques and superb cuisine of Pukekohe and the palatial green of Clarks Beach, Franklin is a unique destination for a fantastic day out. Franklin and the amazing locals will ensure that you don’t leave disappointed or empty handed.”

Awesome stuff Franklin! and some of our local businesses are featured too – Pukekohe Golf Club,, shoe shops, hair salons, accommodation and dining, the likes of The Country Inn, Cafe Palazzo, La Valla, and more as well as our fantastic day spa – Pure Indulgence!

Auckland’s mayor also has this to say about Pukekohe ”

Pukekohe is a boom Town. For decades it was my family’s old hometown. It has maintained a steady gait for years, with it’s industry centred on horticulture and agriculture in close proximity and it’s always had a strong community spirit….. At a rapid pace, it’s becoming not only an important residential and commercial base, but a desirable commuter town in a beautiful setting…”

We really DO have it all here in Franklin – just a stones throw from Auckland’s CBD, yet far enough away to have the luxury of a rural setting, and also close enough to the Waikato for those needing to head south.

…..and if it’s thrills that you want as well…check out our very own amazing Spookers! who are here to scare you silly or give you an amazing setting for your Christmas function, or any other function for that matter!]
