Our Franklin locals give things a go!

Kaye Maxwell, from Maxwell’s Golf, is just one of those who will try new things to add some interest, along with another local golfing facility, Pukekohe Golf.

Maxwell’s  Golf has had a great write-up in one of our local publications

…and here we are – 2015!!

Where DID 2014 go?

The beginning of a new year with new plans and prospects. Franklin is no different in that respect as we have such a lot on the agenda again this year! BUT we do have such awesome events.

If you are a racing fan, then the end of this month at Hampton Downs (officially in the North Waikato, but we still call that area our southern Franklin!!) is the Fifty Plus Formula 5000 lineup

An unprecedented turnout of Formula 5000 cars looks set to secure the 2015 Gulf Oil Howden Ganley Formula 5000 Festival’s place in motorsport history as one of the largest ever gatherings of the iconic race cars.

The organisers are confident fans will see 50 plus of the V8, 10 and V12 powered machines, with cars covering all years of the F5000 formula’s life, and most if not all of the manufacturers who built cars for the series which ran in various guises in the USA, Europe and Australasia between 1968 and 1982.

The 2015 event – which stretches over the weekends of January 16-18 and 23-25 at the Hampton Downs circuit in the North Waikato – is a celebration of both the Formula 5000 type of racing car and driver Howden Ganley. Unheralded Kiwi Ganley’s story is a fascinating one that took the former team mechanic to sports cars, F5000 and the dizzy heights of Formula One.

It also marks the first ‘Formula 5000 World Series’ – the champion of which will be crowned after the last race of the second weekend of the Festival. At least one full grid of Formula 5000s will race during the Festival, and that could mean as many as 35 of the earth-shaking single seaters roaring around the Hampton Downs track almost five seconds a lap quicker than the best ‘V8 taxi’ is capable of

..and while you’re over this way, why not stay awhile and head to Waiuku for the Movies in Parks Rocky Horror Picture show on the 16th Jan? Rocky Horror pic

Looking for something to do this weekend???

Look no further – here we are – almost another weekend! and here in Franklin, it means that there are things “a-happenin’ ”

For instance – if you are looking for some family activities, there’s the ever popular Amazing Maze n Maize at Kingseat, to get lost in!!Amazing Maze n Maize
Waiuku Primary School is another place to head to , as there will be a Summer Carnival there, from 10:0 a.m with stalls, water slide, a hangi (need to pre-order for this yummy treat, so if you’ve never tried a hangi – get in there now!), pony rides and so much more.hangi

For the more energetic, there is the Mauku Fun Run and even if you didn’t feel like taking part, being an onlooker and supporter is fine! but check out the info just in case.

……and then there’s the motor and vintage enthusiasts that we can cater for too.

vintage tractorThe Karaka Vintage Day should be an awesome event, once again. It always puts on a great day with machinery and vintage vehicles of all sorts, so if you feel like a step back in time, that is definitely the place to be.

BNT ST picHeading to Pukekohe in Franklin, is “The Ultimate Family Picnic”. Pack your picnic, kids, brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, grandparents and whoever else you can fit in the car/van/bus and check out the BNT V8 Supertourers. This is the Round 3 event of the BNT V8 Super Tourers and not only will you have the roar of the engines and excitement of the races, but there will also be competitions, challenges and spot prizes for all. So that’s another great event to check out!

A little further south of Pukekohe, by only about 10 minutes, is Tuakau.
A growing town where, this Sunday 23rd, the celebration at the local museum of 100 years of the building will take place. The museum began it’s life as the local Post Office and operated in this way for many years, Of course the changing tide and growth of larger towns, meant that the local post office was no longer viable and the original building was to take on a new lease of life as the museum. So much history of the region and original families, many whose descendants are still living and working in the area.

So, THAT, my friends, gives you a few ideas of what to do and where to go this weekend – and if you are quick enough, you may be able to grab a night at one of our many accommodation providers so that you don’t have to rush back anywhere! 🙂

Merry Christmas

Wishing one and all a very merry, happy and safe Christmas that brings all the best that you could wish for.

… about a little Murder on the Train to make life interesting?

murder on the train
Murder on the Train

More mayhem and murder mysteries right here in Franklin….not that we have murderers on the loose here, but……
what we DO have is the Waiuku Cosmopolitan Club and Glenbrook Vintage Railway inviting you to the AGM of the Waiuku Country Women’s Institute, the most chaotic AGM in the early 1920s.
This will be an evening of a little mischief and murder, with a 2 course dinner, train ride of course !!

Get a group of like minded friends/acquaintances or family together and have yourselves a fun filled evening.

You will arrive at the Waiuku Cosmopolitan Club Restaurant for a special celebratory dinner party. Then a trip to the Victoria Ave Station for a ride on the Glenbrook Vintage Steam Train to Glenbrook, where we get a little treat (probably a pumpkin pie) with a murder. Who done it and why? And everyone thinks the VP is so nice!

Show starts at 6:30pm, dinner served at 7pm.

Free parking is available at the venue.

Information and clues are being announced as they come in. Recommend bringing a coat or stole and maybe an umbrella if it looks like rain (it is the end of summer after all) – there is a short walk to the train.
